Lafayette Real Estate Market Update for July 2014

We have just passed the midway point of the year and thought it was a great time to give you the latest market update on what's going on in the Lafayette real estate market. June's numbers are pretty similar to what they were in May, particularly in closed residential sales. Here are a couple of quick stats:

Closed residential sales for the first 6 months of this year are down about 3% compared to last year
However, dollar value is dead even to where we were in June last year. When you compare it to 2012 numbers, it's up by 23%
Pending sales have jumped up 15% from last year. The market is really starting to heat up this summer. There are a lot of people out there looking to move homes before school starts.
We also have noticed and uptake in new listings. There are 26% more of them than at this point last year.
The average sales price in Lafayette is up $7,000 to $217,000. The median sales price is also up this year, to $189,000
Interest rates are still rocking in the low 4%'s. Our preferred lenders are aggressive with keeping that rate as low as possible.
